It is a matter of pride that the Archive of the National Council of Education, Bengal (NCEB) named Jatindra Mohan Sangtahashala (JMS) (Established on 11th May, 1984) is serving the researchers of many Universities and reputed research institutes of India and abroad. The Sangrahashala contains 6000 Sanskrit an Bengali manuscripts, 7000 books (including some rare books of the 19th and early 20th century) and 2242 periodicals. The NCE,B proposes to enlarge and enrich its look and expand its services to larger sections of scholars and teachers for their use.
Due to pandemic situation (COVID’19) the Archive was totally closed to the scholars. Research activities (most of the days) had to be carried out from home. During this period indexes of some rare periodicals and an annotated catalogue of the Bengali books (1806 to 1920) have been in the process of preparation. On the occasion of the birth centenary of Professor Haridas Mukherjee, an eminent historian and chronicler of the National Education Movement in India, the Archive prepares a write-up on his life and contribution in this area.
The need to get digitized the invaluable holdings in the Archive has long been felt as most urgent. Attempts are being made in this direction, proposals are under consideration.
